About This Coin
The Kentucky Tokens group of the Post-1776 Private and Regional Issues (1778-1820) series holds the pieces described below. The Kentucky token is undated. A hand holds a scroll reading OUR CAUSE IS JUST, with the legend UNANIMITY IS THE STRENGTH OF SOCIETY; the reverse is a pyramid of fifteen stars, each with the initial of a state, with K for Kentucky at the top and E PLURIBUS UNUM around. Crosby found it in The Virtuoso's Companion and thought it was made in Lancaster, England; he records plain edges, the lettered edge PAYABLE IN LANCASTER LONDON OR BRISTOL, and Bedworth and engrailed edges named in an earlier sale catalogue.
