Description

CCL(TI)-10c-XXXX-01 is a Type I counter clash on a Roosevelt dime with no readable date, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. A 20% brockage wiped out the date, the coin was struck out of collar, and the dies clashed three times, each confirmed and none abraded. Because the dies met repeatedly, some marks from the first or second clash were carried back onto the die whose design had made them, which MDC classes as a Type I counter clash. MDC shows both dies plus an overlay of the heaviest clash. Fred Weinberg of California found the coin. On the obverse, PLU of PLURIBUS, an olive and the branch's stem left marks, the stem running through Roosevelt's nose; an olive leaf clashed heavily into his nose with further marks beneath it; the top leaves of the olive branch and the oak branch with its stem also left marks. On the reverse, the base of the bust left two clash marks, the back of Roosevelt's head left three separate ones, and his head and hair just above the forehead left a mix of clash and counter clash marks, with the clearest counter clash evidence marked by MDC's red arrow. His brow and the bridge of his nose also left clash and counter clash marks.
