Description

CCL(TI)-1c-1983-01 This is a Lincoln cent with a doubled die clash. The coin shows that the dies were abraded; this was either pre-clash or inadequately done as clash marks are clearly visible. What is of critical interest is the area in front of Lincoln’s head and the area below the Y of LIBERTY; both sow design elements that were clashed onto the reverse die during the first clash event and then transferred back to the obverse die. The red arrows in front of the forehead and below the Y of LIBERTY show the type 1 counterclashed areas. The red arrows on the reverse show the first clash event which was later clashed back onto the obverse die during the second clash event. This was an unusually strong clash event as parts of ONE CENT and the memorial roof are both seen as is the entire outline of Lincoln’s head.
