1983 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Type I Counter Clash CCLTI-1C-1983-01

Description

CCL(TI)-1c-1983-01 is a Type I counter clash on a 1983-P Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The dies clashed twice. Design elements that the first clash put on the reverse die were carried back onto the obverse die in the second, and they show in front of Lincoln's forehead and below the Y of LIBERTY. MDC marks the first-clash marks on the reverse that were later returned to the obverse. The clash was very strong: parts of ONE CENT show, as do parts of the Memorial roof and the whole outline of Lincoln's head. Abrasion was done on the dies, but either before the clash or not thoroughly enough afterward, since the clash marks remain plain to see.
