Found by George dePozsgay, this 1999 Philadelphia Roosevelt Dime exhibits a Type I counter clash — a specialized form of die clash where marks from an initial collision are transferred back to the original die during a second clash event. The counter clash evidence appears on both the oak leaf and the torch, where two distinct sets of clash marks are visible on each side. The mechanism requires a precise sequence: first, obverse and reverse dies strike each other without a planchet, transferring incuse impressions onto the opposing die. When a second clash occurs, those transferred marks re-impress back onto the originating die, creating a secondary echo of its own design elements. This double-transfer produces clash marks in locations and orientations that cannot result from a single clash. John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime, in use since 1946, features the torch, oak branch, and olive branch on the reverse — elements whose fine detail readily captures and retransmits clash impressions. Type I counter clashes are uncommon finds requiring careful examination to distinguish from ordinary clash marks.
