Description

Documenting the second reverse cud for the 1999 Philadelphia Mint Roosevelt Dime, CU-10c-1999P-02R records a die rim failure at the close of the twentieth century. A cud is created when a section of the die rim fractures completely, the broken fragment separates from the die, and the resulting void fills with metal during subsequent striking operations. The 1999-P Roosevelt Dime was produced during the final year before the Statehood Quarter program began absorbing much of the Mint's attention and production capacity, though dime output remained robust. Cataloged by Cuds on Coins, this variety is part of the systematic documentation of die rim failures that allows researchers to track cud frequency across dates, mints, and denominations. Two reverse cuds for 1999-P indicates that at least two reverse dies developed critical rim fractures during the year's production. The Roosevelt Dime's John R.
