Description

A gold (AV) first reissue of the Sansom Medal (GW-59), produced circa 1859. Gold strikings of the Sansom Medal are extremely rare, as most examples were produced in bronze or copper. This precious metal version was struck as a special presentation piece or for a wealthy collector. The gold composition elevates this to one of the most valuable Washington medals.
