1960 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Small Date - Atypical Die Clash ADC-1c-1960(SD)-01

Description

ADC-1c-1960(SD)-01 is an atypical die clash on a 1960 Small Date Lincoln Memorial cent from the Philadelphia Mint, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. MDC notes it as the first Philadelphia small date 1960 cent of its kind that it had come across. The bottom of Lincoln's bust clashed through STATES on the reverse. No reciprocal marks from the letters of STATES show under the bust, though the obverse there has some abrasion that may have been an attempt to remove clash marks. Die markers: a die scratch below WE, and heavy die scratches in MERIC of AMERICA. The coin MDC illustrates belongs to the private collection of Bob Piazza.
