Description

Among the newest Jefferson nickel varieties to enter the catalog, the 2025 WDDR-024 was attributed by Brian A. Ribar and exhibits Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the large semicircular window, the tops of columns 2 and 3, and the top of the letter T of MONTICELLO on this Philadelphia Mint issue. Current-year doubled dies attract immediate collector attention because the coins remain available in circulation and from bank rolls, giving cherrypickers an active opportunity to locate specimens before the production year ends. The reverse provides two die markers for authentication: a die gouge inside the lower portion of the long right window and a die gouge between the upper portions of R and I of PLURIBUS. No obverse die markers were noted. Cataloged under the Wexler designation 2025-P WDDR-024, this variety shares its doubling focus on the semicircular window and column tops with several other recent Jefferson nickel Class VIII varieties, suggesting that the hub-to-die impression process for the Monticello reverse continues to produce varieties in this characteristic zone of the design where architectural details provide ample surfaces for angular displacement to manifest.
