Description

Attributed by Brian A. Ribar and designated Wexler Variety ID 2025-P WDDR-020, this twentieth doubled die reverse for the 2025 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel exhibits very nice Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the left side of the letters ICEL of MONTICELLO and inside the large semicircular window. Class VIII doubling results from angular tilt between hub and die during hubbing, and the spread across four consecutive letters (I, C, E, L) combined with doubling inside the window demonstrates that the tilt affected a broad swath of the die surface. Obverse die markers include a die dot below the 0 of the date, while the reverse shows a die gouge to the lower right of the last O in MONTICELLO. Twenty documented WDDRs for the 2025-P Jefferson Nickel within its first year of release reflects the extraordinary speed of modern die variety research, where digital imaging and online reporting enable discoveries to be cataloged almost in real time. The 2025 date carries special significance as it may represent one of the final years of the current Monticello reverse configuration, and the window and letter areas of MONTICELLO continue to serve as the most productive zones for Class VIII doubling detection on this design. Brian Ribar's attribution adds his experienced eye to the growing 2025 variety catalog.
