2025 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-007

Description

Documented by Brian A. Ribar under Wexler reference 2025-P WDDR-007, this seventh doubled die reverse for the 2025-P Jefferson Nickel presents Class VIII (Tilted Hub Doubling) with specific architectural focus on Monticello's center stairway and door frame. The doubling manifests above the top step of the center stairs and on the upper portion of the center door frame — two adjacent structural elements that together define the main entrance to Thomas Jefferson's iconic Virginia residence. Class VIII tilted hub doubling occurs when the hub contacts the die at a non-parallel angle during the hubbing process, creating progressive displacement that varies across the die face according to the tilt geometry. Obverse die markers include a die gouge to the left of Jefferson's lips, while the reverse carries an extensive constellation of markers: a die gouge to the upper side of the small right window, another to the lower right of the same window, a die gouge below UN of UNUM, and a die gouge to the right of the large semicircular window above Monticello's entrance. This five-marker diagnostic framework (one obverse, four reverse) provides robust attribution security for confirming specimens. The 2025-P Jefferson Nickel was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in standard copper-nickel composition (5.0 grams, 21.21 mm diameter), continuing the Return to Monticello reverse design introduced in 2006. As only the seventh DDR for this date, the variety represents early documentation of the 2025 nickel die study.
