2025 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

A current-year discovery on the 2025 Ida B. Wells American Women Quarter, this Philadelphia Mint doubled die obverse shows strong doubling on the E and OD in GOD, hair detail, and eyelid, with tripling visible on the upper hair detail and eyelid. Tripling — three distinct impressions rather than two — indicates the working die received at least three hubbing impressions with progressive misalignment, producing more complex layering than standard doubled dies. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2025-P 25c IBW WDDO-002, the variety features detailed die markers on both obverse and reverse, including a die crack running across Ida B. Wells' arm on the obverse. The American Women Quarter series (2022-2025) honors distinguished American women, and the Wells design recognizes the journalist, educator, and civil rights leader. Struck in clad composition, the 2025-P belongs to the final year of this quarter program.
