Description
The 2024 (P) Celia Cruz Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 149.6 million examples, making this ranked 7th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 9% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. Cuban-American singer known as the "Queen of Salsa" whose career spanned six decades and earned multiple Grammy Awards. The reverse depicts Cruz performing with her signature catchphrase "Azucar!" inscribed. Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray, Patsy Takemoto Mink, Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, Celia Cruz, and Zitkala-Sa. Murray was a civil rights activist and co-founder of NOW. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792.
