Description

The 2023 (P) Maria Tallchief Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 185.8 million examples, making this ranked 7th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 7% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. America's first major prima ballerina and a citizen of the Osage Nation who became the star of the New York City Ballet. The reverse shows Tallchief in a spotlit balletic pose. Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief honored. Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #919372.
