Description
The 2023 (P) Edith Kanaka'ole Quarter is a quarter minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 372.8 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 15 variants, accounting for 14% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. Native Hawaiian composer, chanter, hula master, and cultural preservationist who dedicated her life to Hawaiian traditions. The reverse includes the inscription "E ho mai ka ike" (Grant the wisdom). Bessie Coleman, Edith Kanaka'ole, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jovita Idar, and Maria Tallchief honored. Coleman was the first African American and Native American woman to hold a pilot's license. Coined at the Philadelphia facility, the nation's original mint that has operated continuously since its 1792 founding. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $1 depending on grade and condition.
