Description

The 2022 (S) Proof Dr. Sally Ride Silver Quarter is a proof quarter struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 356,873 examples, making this ranked 6th of 25 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. First American woman in space, flying aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983. The reverse shows Ride next to a shuttle window gazing at Earth. Inaugural year featuring Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, and Anna May Wong. The new Laura Gardin Fraser obverse debuted, her original 1931 design finally adopted. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $28 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 99.9% silver, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #900691.
