Description

The 2022 (S) Wilma Mankiller Quarter is a quarter produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 304,640 examples, making this ranked 3rd of 15 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. First woman elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, serving from 1985 to 1995. The reverse portrays Mankiller with the seven-pointed star of the Cherokee Nation. Inaugural year featuring Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, and Anna May Wong. The new Laura Gardin Fraser obverse debuted, her original 1931 design finally adopted. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #904372.
