Description
The 2022 (S) Maya Angelou Quarter is a quarter produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 303,520 examples, making this the lowest mintage among 15 mint variants, representing only less than 1% of total production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. Celebrated poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist whose works include "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." The reverse depicts Angelou with arms uplifted, a bird in flight, and a rising sun — imagery drawn from her own writing. Inaugural year featuring Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, and Anna May Wong. The new Laura Gardin Fraser obverse debuted, her original 1931 design finally adopted. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in copper-nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.26 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #899391.
