Description
The 2022 (P) Wilma Mankiller Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 310 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 15 variants, accounting for 12% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. First woman elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, serving from 1985 to 1995. The reverse portrays Mankiller with the seven-pointed star of the Cherokee Nation. Inaugural year featuring Maya Angelou, Dr. Sally Ride, Wilma Mankiller, Nina Otero-Warren, and Anna May Wong. The new Laura Gardin Fraser obverse debuted, her original 1931 design finally adopted.
