Description

The 2021 (P) American Innovation Dollar - New York, Position B is a dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint's figure of 453,750 covers every Philadelphia New York dollar, whatever the orientation of its edge lettering; how many have the Position B edge is not recorded. The obverse features a profile of the Statue of Liberty with a small stylized gear privy mark, and the reverses honor innovations and innovators from each state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. This coin honors the 363-mile Erie Canal completed in 1825, which connected the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, dramatically reduced shipping costs, and fueled the growth of New York City as a commercial hub. New Hampshire (the first home video game system — Ralph Baer), Virginia (the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel), New York (the Erie Canal), and North Carolina (the first public university — University of North Carolina). Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.49 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #889564.
