Description

The 2021 (D) American Innovation Dollar - New York, Position B is a dollar from the Denver Mint, belonging to the American Innovation Dollars 2018 to Date series. The U.S. Mint gives 453,825 for the Denver New York dollar as a whole, Position A and Position B together; no separate count exists for either edge. The obverse features a profile of the Statue of Liberty with a small stylized gear privy mark, and the reverses honor innovations and innovators from each state, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. This coin honors the 363-mile Erie Canal completed in 1825, which connected the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, dramatically reduced shipping costs, and fueled the growth of New York City as a commercial hub. New Hampshire (the first home video game system — Ralph Baer), Virginia (the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel), New York (the Erie Canal), and North Carolina (the first public university — University of North Carolina). Coined at Denver's facility, which transitioned from processing Colorado gold rush metal to full-scale coin production in 1906. Struck in 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.49 mm in diameter, with a lettered edge. Cataloged as PCGS #889566.
