2020 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009

Description

On the 2020 Lincoln Shield Cent, WDDO-009 shows light extra thickness on the ERTY in LIBERTY, with the upper right of the Y noticeably thicker than the upper left. Notching appears on the lower left corners of the ERTY letters as well. Obverse die markers include a die gouge running northeast from the bottom of the nose and a possible small die chip on the upper T in LIBERTY. The reverse carries a die crack across the top left of the shield north of the LURIB in PLURIBUS. This die is noted as being extremely similar in character to WDDO-007, and in-hand examination has been requested to ensure it represents a distinct die rather than a later state of that variety. Collectors who locate a specimen matching these diagnostics should preserve it for potential comparative study. The LIBERTY thickness asymmetry—particularly the Y where the right stroke is measurably heavier—serves as the most accessible visual diagnostic for initial identification.
