2020 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

Light extra thickness concentrated on the ERTY in LIBERTY, where the upper right of the Y is measurably thicker than the upper left, combined with notching on the lower left corners of ERTY, makes this eighth documented doubled die obverse for the 2020 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent a variety best examined under 10x magnification or higher. The asymmetric thickening of the Y — one side visibly heavier than the other — provides a particularly reliable diagnostic because normal strike variation does not produce this directional asymmetry. A small die gouge resembling a dot sits just above the T in LIBERTY on the obverse, serving as the primary die marker. No reverse markers were noted.
