2020 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Doubled Die Reverse VDDR-017

Description

Seventeenth VarietyVista doubled die reverse cataloged for the 2020 Jefferson Nickel, this variety shows a medium spread South visible as an extra top right central roof of the door on Monticello. Die markers are pending full assignment (UVC-???? and DMR-00?), with Stage A showing both the reverse and obverse in early die state (EDS), and Stages B (MDS) and C (LDS) unconfirmed. The pending UVC and DMR numbers indicate this variety was cataloged before complete die marker analysis was finalized, though the primary doubling diagnostic is firmly established. The 2020 date carries added significance as it falls during the final years of the Felix Schlag Monticello reverse in its returned form (2006-present), and seventeen documented VDDRs for a single year's Jefferson Nickel production demonstrates the remarkable concentration of detectable hub doubling on this design. The Monticello doorway and roofline areas have consistently produced the highest density of doubled die discoveries on the Return to Monticello reverse, because the geometric precision of these architectural features makes even slight hub displacement visible under magnification. A medium South spread on the roof of the door manifests as a downward displacement creating a shadow or double line below the roofline's intended position, requiring careful examination to distinguish from die deterioration doubling.
