2020 VDDR VDDR-010

Description

Cataloged as VDDR-010 for the 2020 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, this doubled die reverse displays light southward spread creating an extra top roof line on the central doorway of Monticello. The doubling is subtle but diagnostic, adding a secondary roof line above the architectural detail of Jefferson's iconic Virginia estate. Die stage documentation shows Stage A in early-to-mid die state, identified by a die depression in the field west of the building and a die gouge between the lower left windows, with the obverse also in early-to-mid state. Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. The UVC and DMR catalog codes have not yet been assigned, reflecting recent documentation in the VarietyVista system. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel, the 2020 Jefferson Nickel carries Felix Schlag's Monticello reverse in its final years before the 2025 redesign. The fine architectural details of the Monticello facade — doorways, columns, windows, and rooflines — make this reverse particularly sensitive to hub doubling, with even light displacement producing identifiable phantom architectural elements.
