2020 VDDR VDDR-009
Error
Description
Medium southward spread defines VDDR-009 on the 2020 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, with doubling visible as an extra bottom left line of the triangle and additional spread on the left roof of the central doorway of Monticello. These two affected areas — a geometric triangular element and the straight roofline above the center door — sit in a region of the reverse where even moderate hub displacement produces clearly separated images. Cataloged by VarietyVista with pending attribution codes UVC-???? and DMR-00?, this variety awaits final code assignment while its documentation remains active. Die stage tracking shows Stage A as unconfirmed in early die state, Stage B with both reverse and obverse confirmed at mid-die-state, and Stage C unconfirmed in late die state. The confirmed mid-die-state observation for Stage B indicates that at least one specimen has been examined at that level of die wear. The 2020 date was the final year of the classic Monticello reverse before the Jefferson Nickel transitioned to new reverse designs, placing VDDR-009 among the last generation of doubled dies bearing Felix Schlag's rendering of Jefferson's Virginia estate.
