Exhibiting a medium spread in the south-southwest direction, this eighth VarietyVista doubled die reverse for the 2020 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel manifests as an extra top roof on Monticello's central doorway — one of the more visually dramatic doubled die effects found on modern nickels. The south-southwest spread direction indicates the hub shifted in that compass bearing between impressions during die manufacture, and the doubling concentrated at the roofline creates a ghost image of the architectural element that is immediately apparent under low magnification. Documented in an early-to-mid die state on both obverse and reverse, the variety captures the doubling before significant wear could obscure the secondary image. Felix Schlag's detailed rendering of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello residence translates hub displacement into architectural anomalies — doubled rooflines, shifted columns, and displaced window frames — that differ fundamentally from portrait-based doubling seen on other denominations. The extra roof on the central doorway gives this variety an immediately recognizable visual signature among the 2020 Jefferson Nickel DDR listings.
