2020 VDDR VDDR-006

Description
Sixth VarietyVista-designated doubled die reverse for the 2020 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, this variety shows light spread to the southwest, manifesting as extra thickness on the top roof line and left side of the central doorway on Monticello. The southwest directionality indicates the hub shifted down and to the left between impressions during die manufacture, displacing architectural features in that direction. Monticello's central entrance — with its pediment, door frame, and flanking windows — concentrates fine design detail in a compact area where even light doubling creates a detectable secondary image. The 2020-P Jefferson Nickel belongs to the final years of Schlag's original Monticello reverse, in continuous production since 1938. Light spread varieties require careful examination under magnification to detect, as the displacement is small enough that the doubled image appears as thickening rather than distinct separation. Six VDDR varieties for the 2020 date reflects VarietyVista's ongoing cataloging of modern nickel varieties, tracking hubbing anomalies that inevitably arise across the many die pairs consumed during a year of production at Philadelphia.
