Description

Cataloged as WDDR-022 and attributed by the Wexler Team, this 2020 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel doubled die reverse exhibits Class VIII tilted hub doubling below the upper right portion and above the right edge of the door frame on the center door above the steps of Monticello. Class VIII doubling results from a slight angular tilt of the hub relative to the die during the hubbing process, producing a rotational spread that is the most common doubling mechanism found on modern Jefferson Nickel reverses. On the reverse, a die dot appears to the right of the large semicircular window, and a second die dot is positioned to the left of the lower portion of the first column, together providing reliable markers for attribution. No obverse die markers have been noted for this die pair. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID: 2020-P WDDR-022, this variety is part of the extensive catalog of doubled dies documented on the post-2006 Jefferson Nickel redesign, where the forward-facing portrait and Monticello reverse continue to yield new die varieties each year.
