Description
Anchoring the catalog as the premier 2019 Denver Mint Roosevelt Dime doubled die reverse, WDDR-001 holds the first-position designation that typically indicates either the strongest doubling or the earliest discovery for this date-mintmark combination. The Wexler Team recorded this variety with no alternative cross-references under the identifier 2019-D 10c WDDR-001. First-position DDRs serve an important reference function within the attribution community: they establish the baseline against which all subsequently discovered varieties for the same date-mint are compared and differentiated. For the 2019-D Roosevelt Dime, WDDR-001 sets that baseline. The reverse of all Roosevelt Dimes since the 1946 series launch carries John R. Sinnock's torch-and-branches composition — a design that has proven remarkably durable as a variety-detection platform because its combination of organic shapes (branch leaves and berries), geometric forms (the torch), and text elements (ONE DIME, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM) creates multiple zones with different sensitivity profiles to different types of hub displacement. Leaves and berries register rotational doubling effectively, while the straight vertical torch shaft reveals lateral spread, and the text inscriptions display both radial and tangential displacement depending on their position relative to the coin's center. Denver's 2019 dime production consumed numerous working dies, and WDDR-001 preserves the unique misalignment signature of one specific die within that population. Standard clad composition at 2.268 grams on a 17.91mm planchet applies. Magnification of 5x or greater under raking light directed at the reverse inscriptions provides the most efficient screening approach.
