Description

On the 2019 Denver-mint Lincoln Shield Cent, WDDO-001 (Wexler Variety ID: 2019-D 1-cent WDDO-001) was documented by the Wexler Team with no other known cross-references. Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait, with its finely detailed hair above the ear, the textured coat lapel, and the precise serif lettering of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, provides multiple diagnostic zones where hub misalignment registers as doubled contours or thickened letter strokes. The 2019-D cent was produced at the Denver Mint in copper-plated zinc composition — a 97.5% zinc core with a thin copper plating — at a weight of 2.5 grams and diameter of 19.05 mm. Lyndall Bass's Union Shield reverse, featuring horizontal lines representing the states unified under the federal banner with a scroll bearing E PLURIBUS UNUM across its center, pairs with the obverse on all Lincoln Shield Cents from 2010 onward. Attribution of WDDO-001 requires examination of the obverse design elements under at least 5x magnification to identify the specific spread pattern — its direction, magnitude, and affected design areas — that distinguishes this particular die from any subsequently cataloged varieties.
