2017 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, this 2017 Ozark National Scenic Riverways quarter from the America the Beautiful series exhibits reverse hub doubling manifesting as extra stones to the left of the cellar window and doubling along the bridge railing in the design's foreground. The Ozark Riverways reverse depicts Alley Mill, a historic grist mill in Shannon County, Missouri, and the stone masonry detail provides a particularly effective canvas for revealing minor die doubling. A die chip has formed on the bust above the E of QUARTER on the obverse, while a pre-die-break depression appears below the letters ER in RIVERWAYS on the reverse, suggesting the die was developing fatigue in that area before a full break could form. Ozark National Scenic Riverways was the 38th release in the ATB quarter program, representing Missouri in the 2017 series. Struck in copper-nickel clad composition, WDDR-015 combines hub doubling with progressive die deterioration markers that help establish its position within the die state sequence. The extra stones beside the cellar window serve as the primary pickup point for collectors seeking this variety in circulation finds or roll searching.
