2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-023

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-023 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: windows 3 and 4, counting from the left, in the lowest row. Obverse Stage A has a gouge left of the tip of the nose. On Stage B that gouge is very weak but still present; a crack crosses the bust's base, with die chips over the designer's initials, QUARTER's last R and DOLLAR's D; there are gouges inside the upper left of QUARTER's Q and between AMERICA's I and C; and the P mint mark has nearly worn away. Wexler says the Stage B gouges could also exist on earlier stages. Reverse Stage A has a small gouge over the left side of JOHN's O. On Stage B that marker is very weak but still present; a crack runs from the building's lower right corner to the right building; a short crack runs E off the guard tower's top; in the second doorway there are light NW/SE feeder finger scrapes; and a gouge sits left of FORT's F. Again, the Stage B gouges could also exist on earlier stages. Evan Goldfarb submitted Stage A and George W. Powell, Jr. Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
