2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-020

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-020 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: windows 2, 3 and 4, counting from the left, in both the bottom row and the row second from the bottom. Obverse Stage A has a gouge at the rim under QUARTER's last R. Stage B keeps it and adds a light crack on the bust's base north of DOLLAR's D, with a small die chip at the crack's left end, and a gouge inside DOLLAR's O. On Stage C the Stage B markers remain; the crack has grown and the chips are larger, and there is another chip on the J of the designer's initials JF, plus gouges over the bottom of DOLLAR's last L, between AMERICA's R and I, and touching the lower left edge of AMERICA's C. Reverse Stage A has a small gouge right of the left roof's top. Stage B keeps it and adds a pre-die break depression on the building's left side. On Stage C the gouge has worn away and the depression has become a die chip; there are also chips atop the guard tower and at the building's lower right corner, a retained break on the left roof's right side, and a gouge right of JOHN's J. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted Stages A and C, and Alfonso Lopez Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
