Description
WDDR-019 — Wexler Variety ID 2016-P 25¢ WV WDDR-019 — is in the Harpers Ferry DDR catalog for this ATB quarter. The 2016-P Harpers Ferry quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which by the ATB era was operating modern high-speed presses requiring continuous die replacement. Each replacement die was manufactured through the hubbing process, where a hardened hub transfers the design into a softened die blank under hydraulic pressure. Harpers Ferry's reverse depicts John Brown's Fort, the armory fire engine house used by John Brown's raiders in 1859. The fort's brickwork and windows required fine engraving detail that translates into numerous potential doubling indicators on working dies.
