2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-018

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-018 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: windows 2, 3 and 4, counting from the left, in both the bottom row and the row second from the bottom. Obverse Stage A has a pre-die crack depression running across the right side of the bust's base, over the designer's initials, and a gouge between QUARTER's E and R. On Obverse Stage B that gouge may or may not show, and the depression has become a crack, running across the right side of the bust's base over the initials. Reverse Stage A has several short, evenly spaced gouges running E off the left roof's right side, and a thin scratch running S off BROWN's W. On Reverse Stage B those gouges remain, the scratch may or may not show, and a die break sits on the building's left side, on the roof's right side. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted Stage A and Thomas Gambon Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes that it closely resembles WDDR-016; the key difference is that the doubling sits higher in the windows here and lower on WDDR-016.
