2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-010

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-010 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: window 4, counting from the left, in the lowest row, the line under that window, and window 4 in the row second from the bottom. Obverse Stage A has small gouges over the right side of STATES' E and inside UNITED's D, a NW/SE scratch between LIBERTY's T and Y, scratches between STATES' E and S, and a scratch over AMERICA's M. On Stage B the scratches have worn away but the gouges remain; there are die chips on the bust's base left of the designer's initials and over DOLLAR's D, and a long gouge over the right side of STATES' E. On Stage C the Stage B markers may or may not show, and the chips are larger. Reverse Stage A has a pair of small gouges between FORT's O and R. Reverse Stage B keeps them and adds a small die chip on the building's lower right side, a pre-die break depression over the guard tower, and a small gouge that nearly touches the guard tower's left side. On Reverse Stage C the Stage B markers remain; the chip on the building's right side is much larger, the depression over the guard tower has become a die chip, and a chip sits on the building's left side. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted Stages A and B, and USMC60 Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
