2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-008 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: window 3, counting from the left, in the lowest row, and windows 3 and 4 in the row second from the bottom. Obverse Stage A has a thin gouge running S off QUARTER's Q. On Stage B that marker has worn away; die chips sit to the left of the designer's initials JF and between them, a gouge between the lower parts of LIBERTY's I and B, a thin gouge inside the upper opening of DOLLAR's R, and a gouge under AMERICA's last A. Reverse Stage A has a scratch running NW off the left roof's right side. Reverse Stage B keeps it and adds a gouge between JOHN's H and N and a gouge between the branches over the right roof. USMC60 submitted Stage A, with additional photos from a coin sent in by Aaron Laramee; Laramee submitted Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
