Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2016-P 25-cent WV WDDR-001, this America the Beautiful Quarter depicting Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia exhibits doubling in the lower windows of the second column of windows above the first door on the left, on the right side of the building — a precisely defined location within the architectural reverse design. Die markers progress across two obverse stages: Stage A shows a small die gouge dot to the right of the bottom of the T in UNITED; Stage B introduces a die crack running along the base of the bust to the left of the designer's initials and a die chip on the base of the bust north of the E in QUARTER. Reverse stages show no significant markers in either Stage A or Stage B, meaning the reverse die remained relatively clean throughout the documented portion of its service life — an unusual condition given that reverse dies typically accumulate detectable wear markers during extended production.
