2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-048

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-048 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: windows 3 and 4, counting from the left, in the lowest row, running into the frame beneath them. Obverse Stage A has a gouge over the left side of QUARTER's Q. On Stage B that gouge remains; die chips sit left of the designer's initials JF, one of them significant and several lesser; and there are gouges inside QUARTER's U and between the bottoms of LIBERTY's B and E. On Stage C the gouge in LIBERTY has probably worn away while the other Stage B markers remain; the significant chip now joins the next chip to its left, and all the Stage B chips are larger. Reverse Stage A has a gouge at the far right doorway's right edge, and Reverse Stages B and C are the same. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
