2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-043

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-043 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: windows 2, 3 and 4, counting from the left, in the lowest row, and windows 3 and 4 in the row second from the bottom. Obverse Stage A has a gouge behind the ear. On Stage B that gouge is weak but still present, and a crack crosses the bust's base left of the designer's initials. On Stage C the gouge is still weakly present, and die chips have formed on the crack, one of them under the J of the designer's initials JF. Reverse Stage A has very thin scratches, mostly NW/SE, over the roof, and a thin scratch linking the O of BROWN'S with the T of FORT; Reverse Stage B is the same. On Reverse Stage C those scratches are weak but still present, and a small die chip sits on top of the tower. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
