Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team as 2016-P 25¢ WV WDDR-034, this Philadelphia Mint Harpers Ferry National Park Quarter exhibits doubled die reverse characteristics localized to the window details of the armory facade. The doubling manifests at the top left corner of the third window from the left in the bottom row and at the bottom left corner of the third window from the left in the second row, providing two focused diagnostic points. Die markers aid in identifying the specific die pair: on the obverse, a short die crack passes through the designer's initials accompanied by die chips above and to the left, while the reverse presents no significant markers. These obverse features help distinguish WDDR-034 from other doubled die reverse varieties cataloged for the 2016 Harpers Ferry issue. The Harpers Ferry quarter, designed by Thomas Hipschen, depicts the John Brown Fort as part of the America the Beautiful program. The intricate architectural details of the armory building, with rows of windows and arched doorways, create multiple areas where hub doubling becomes visible under magnification, explaining the substantial number of documented doubled die varieties for this date.
