2016 (P) Harpers Ferry National Historical Park Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-032

Description

2016-P WV WDDR-032 is a doubled die reverse on the 2016-P Harpers Ferry National Historical Park quarter (West Virginia) in the America the Beautiful series, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling lies in the windows of the arch over the central doorway: the lowest row's fourth window from the left. Obverse markers: a die chip on the bust over DOLLAR's D; a strong NW/SE scratch between OF's O and F; NW/SE scratches under the ear; gouges inside QUARTER's U and in the lower opening of QUARTER's A; large gouges left of the bottom of DOLLAR's O and right of DOLLAR's first L; a gouge under AMERICA's M and E; a gouge inside the upper opening of AMERICA's E; and a large gouge in the lower opening of AMERICA's last A. On the reverse there is a small gouge right of the R in BROWN'S. George W. Powell, Jr. submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler notes this is a replacement listing: the first WDDR-032 turned out to be various die stages of WDDR-011. Wexler adds that it closely resembles WDDR-079 and suggests comparing the doubling and die markers.
