The 2016 Mark Twain Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a United States five-dollar gold coin from the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series. In 2016 the West Point Mint struck 5,699 uncirculated and 13,273 proof Mark Twain five-dollar gold coins, 18,972 in all. The obverse features a portrait of Mark Twain, and the reverse displays a steamboat with its paddlewheel. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry.
