The 1989 Congress Bicentennial Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a United States five-dollar gold coin from the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series. In 1989 the West Point Mint struck 46,899 uncirculated and 164,690 proof Congress Bicentennial five-dollar gold coins, 211,589 in all. The obverse features the dome of the Capitol, and the reverse displays the eagle from the canopy of the Old Senate Chamber. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by John M. Mercanti.
