The 1986 Statue of Liberty Centennial Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a United States five-dollar gold coin from the Modern Commemorative Five Dollar Gold (1984-Date) series — the first year of the series. In 1986 the West Point Mint struck 95,248 uncirculated and 404,013 proof Statue of Liberty five-dollar gold coins, 499,261 in all. The obverse features a close view of the Statue of Liberty's head and crown, and the reverse displays an eagle in flight, about to land. Struck in 90% gold and 10% alloy, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by Elizabeth Jones.
