2015 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-035

Description

WDDO-035 is an obverse doubled die for the 2015 Lincoln Shield cent. Moderate extra thickness on the letters of LIBERTY characterizes this variety, where the hub misalignment produced a secondary impression that nearly overlapped the primary, creating letters with measurably heavier strokes rather than directionally separated secondary images. The Wexler Team assigned this the designation Wexler Variety ID: 2015 1¢ WDDO-035, with no other known cross-references and no significant die markers on either surface. Philadelphia's annual cent production runs into the billions, generating enormous numbers of working dies, and the systematic examination of roll quantities by variety collectors ensures that even subtle hub doublings are identified and cataloged. Moderate extra thickness on LIBERTY provides a focused diagnostic zone along the left field of the obverse, where the word's large letter size amplifies the effect of the added stroke weight. Collectors should compare the LIBERTY letter profiles against confirmed undoubled 2015 cents, looking for consistently thicker strokes across all letters rather than isolated thickening on just one or two characters. The uniform extra thickness across the full word confirms a genuine hub doubling rather than a localized die defect or strike anomaly.
