2015 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-007

Description

2015 WDDO-007 is a doubled die obverse on the 2015 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date and the letters of LIBERTY show strong doubling. IN GOD WE TRUST shows a lesser spread that decreases from left to right. Wexler records two stages. The Stage A obverse has a pre-die chip depression in the hair over the front of the forehead and a light ridge ring above IN GOD WE TRUST. On the Stage B obverse, that spot in the hair now holds a die chip, and a crack curves north from the back of the eyebrow into the forehead. On the Stage A reverse, there is chipping on the shield's top above the LUR of PLURIBUS, plus a chip on the shield's top over the S of PLURIBUS and the first U in UNUM. On the Stage B reverse those chips are unchanged, and a small chip appears on the N of ONE, at its right side. Lawrence R. Thrash submitted Stage A, with updated photos and markers taken from a coin of Larry Alford's; Stephen Young submitted Stage B. CONECA lists the variety as 2-O-VIII. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
