Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, this doubled die obverse on the 2015 Philadelphia Lincoln Shield Cent presents strong doubling spread to the southeast on the date and the letters of LIBERTY, with a lesser spread visible on IN GOD WE TRUST where the displacement increases from left to right across the motto. The southeastern directional spread indicates the hub was offset in that direction during the secondary hubbing impression, producing a consistent displacement angle across the affected design elements. Strong doubling on both the date and LIBERTY provides two primary pickup points for attribution, while the progressive spread on IN GOD WE TRUST — intensifying as the letters move rightward — offers a secondary diagnostic that confirms the hub's directional misalignment. No significant die markers have been noted on either the obverse or reverse. The Lincoln Shield Cent, introduced in 2010, features Lyndall Bass's Union Shield reverse that replaced the Lincoln Memorial design, and its copper-plated zinc composition has been standard since 1982.
