2015 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

WDDO-001 on the 2015-P Lincoln Shield Cent is a Wexler Team attribution, Variety ID 2015 1¢ WDDO-001. The doubling manifests as extra thickness on the LIBERTY letters with notches on the lower left of ERTY and the upper left of T — a Class I spread that produces visible letter-edge notching accessible under moderate magnification. The notching on the T is among the most confirming details, as the dual-sided notch position (lower-left ERTY and upper-left T) creates a measurable asymmetric spread that distinguishes this from hub wear. Die markers include a large die chip in the hair above the forehead — a prominent feature accessible at low magnification — a die crack in the hair at the upper back of the head, and a die crack from the scroll to the second A in AMERICA. The 2015-P Lincoln Shield Cent was struck at Philadelphia in copper-plated zinc. The large die chip above the forehead is the most immediately visible marker and provides an effective triage test before confirming the LIBERTY letter-edge notching, particularly on examples where field reflectivity makes the doubling harder to isolate without careful lighting control.
