2015 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009
ErrorDescription
Representing one of the rarest doubling classifications in the CONECA system, the 2015 WDDR-009 exhibits Class VIII (Tilted Hub Doubling) on the Jefferson Nickel reverse — a scarce mechanism where the working hub was tilted relative to the die during hubbing, producing doubling that varies in magnitude across the die face. Attributed by the Wexler Team, the doubling shows on the upper left portion of the door frame on the center door above the steps of Monticello. A small die gouge below V of FIVE provides a secondary attribution marker. Class VIII differs fundamentally from more common Classes I through IV: rather than a uniform shift, pivot, or distortion, the hub contacts at a slight angle, compressing one side more than the other and creating progressively stronger doubling from one edge to the other — strongest at the upper left door frame. Struck on 75% copper and 25% nickel at 21.2mm. Schlag's Monticello reverse returned to standard use after the 2004-2006 Westward Journey series. Inspect the center door frame above the steps for tilted hub doubling and verify the die gouge below V of FIVE.
